Harvest Festival 2008
On Friday 10th October the children joined with the community for a harvest festival. Parents/Carers, the Reverend Les Austin and Kentisbury and Parracombe Pre-school were invited to join the school for a harvest celebration. The children hosted a service which began with everyone joining together to sing ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’. The juniors then did a play about church mice and their discovery of what harvest is really about (not just good things to eat, but thanks giving to God). They then lead prayers thanking God for this year’s harvest. The infants told everyone some apple facts and performed a song about autumn leaves.
After the service everyone enjoyed a celebratory apple themed lunch of roast pork with apple sauce and apple crumble. This delicious meal had been made from apples harvested from the school garden by the children. The infants collected additional apples which they weighed and bagged up and then sold as part of their numeracy learning. Proceeds of the sales are being donated to FacilitAid to buy bricks to build schools in Burundi.
The school looked beautiful for the celebration as it had been decorated with fruit, vegetables, flowers and preserves kindly brought into the school by children, staff and the local police. This produce was all donated to Kentisbury Church after the celebration at school where it was used to help decorate the church. Many children from school attended and took part in the service at the church on Sunday and enjoyed seeing the produce from the school being auctioned off in aid of local charities.
