Science Week 2010

logoWhat an exciting week!

Thanks to all parents, carers, children and staff for your hard work during science week.

During the week there were two family challenges.

Space Ted – Design an insulated space suit to protect your teddy as he travels into space.

We had some excellent entries.

It was a tough job to choose the winners.

Thanks to everyone who came to watch the launches at Holman Park.

There were certificates for the rockets that travelled the furthest and for the best decorated rocket.

Planetarium

One of the highlights of the week was the visit by the mobile planetarium.

Once inside the children were treated to an amazing audio visual presentation to enhance their understanding of space.

KS1 learned about the earth, sun and moon.
KS2 learned about the dawn of the space race.

The 3D presentation really brought these topics alive and the children were really inspired by the experience.

Space collage

Parents and carers were invited to join us to create a whole school space collage.

KS1 made all of the planets in our solar system
KS2 created a space-scene background inspired by the deep space photographs from the Hubble telescope.

When we put everyone’s work together it created the most amazing display.

I was really pleased with the children’s enthusiasm during the week.

I’m already looking forward to doing it all again next year.
