North Devon Festival 2009
On June 25th & 26th the children of Parracombe School took part in the prestigious North Devon Festival by presenting a multi art-form production called ‘Be Not Afeared...’
Taking as its starting point Caliban's speech from Act 3, Scene 2 of 'The Tempest' and working with performing arts professionals the children created a magical landscape in the woodland at Woody Bay Station.
The performances involved dance, drama and music all developed by the children in a series of workshops.
Calibans Speech:
Be not afeared; this isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears; and sometimes voices
that, if I then had waked, after long sleep,
Will make me sleep again; and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open and show riches
Ready to drop upon me,
that when I waked, I cried to dream again.
