Friends of Parracombe School
The Friends of Parracombe School Committee is made up of current and past parents, staff and anyone who wants to support and help the school with a variety of fund-raising and social activities. The current chair of the Friends is Teresa Councell and she can be reached on 01598 763359 if you have any questions. We generally meet once every half-term and anyone is welcome to come along. We're pretty informal and always open to new suggestions for ways to raise money and have fun. Over the years we have funded a kiln, computer equipment, school trips, play equipment and a variety of other items as requested by the staff and children. We're always looking for new things to do but we also have a, more or less, standard round of events - we run quiz nights, an Easter chocolate bingo, summer end of term BBQ, buy leaving gifts for year 6 pupils, have a Halloween party or ghost walk, refreshments after the nativity, and we organise and fund the school Christmas party. We have entered floats in local carnivals, organised several clay shoots and in 2008 held our first (but definitely not last) pony show which was great fun despite the appalling weather. We are extremely fortunate that we receive so much support from the village of Parracombe and the wider area, I think it is a sign of how much the school is valued by our community.

Pony Show 2009
After the torrential downpour of 2008 the fact that this year's Pony and Dog Show took place in only a light drizzle was a huge relief, we're expecting a heatwave next year.
The loyal supporters who turned out last year were back again and, happily, there were new people too. As well as the judged classes there was a handy pony ring, clear round jumping and gymkhana games.
Competition was fierce in the Dog Show (but fortunately the competitors weren't).
Duck Race 2009
As part of the Beer Festival the Hunter's Inn very kindly invited us to run the Duck Race. It was much more fevered and exciting than the pictures can possibly capture!
We have pointed out to Charlie that if he wants to win the race by pretending to be a duck next year he needs to get a yellow wetsuit.
We are delighted that with the proceeds from the Duck Race we have been able to buy two new digital cameras for the school.
