FOREST SCHOOL

The West Exmoor Federation is very proud to have its own Forest School.  The Forest School is based in a traditional yurt which is accommodated within the stunning grounds of Kentisbury School.  It is run by Barbara Watts and Gini Hynes, both of whom are qualified Forest School Leaders.

Our Forest School provides a unique and inspirational way of encouraging our children to build independence, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning as they explore and experience the natural world for themselves.  By participating in engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities our children have the opportunity to develop intrinsic motivation, sound emotional and social skills and valuable life skills such as communication, co-operation and responsibility. The provision of stimulating, exciting activities that are memorable to children promote ‘deep level' learning experiences.

Children from across the federation have the opportunity to engage in Forest School activities on a regular basis. During a typical six week programme they have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly how to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others. Forest School runs throughout the year and in all weathers.
